NBA YoungBoy was put on active supervised probation for the next three years, given a suspended 10-year prison term, fined $5,000 and ordered to perform 250 hours of community service for his role in a non-fatal drive-by shooting.
The rising star was sentenced on Tuesday (August 22) after pleading guilty to a single reduced charge of aggravated assault with a firearm in May. The teen rapper was originally booked on two counts of first-degree attempted murder after being identified as one of the gunmen in a November 2 shooting in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Police believe the shooting was connected to two other shootings, one of which was fatal, that took place over a two-day span. Eighteen-year-old Keondrae Ricks was killed in the attack.

YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was lectured by District Judge Bonnie Jackson at his sentencing, according to The Baton Rouge Advocate. The judge lamented the amount of violence in New Orleans (where YoungBoy currently lives), and Baton Rouge before stating that the rapper and his associates were lucky because they were “all bad shots.”
“I wasn’t very happy with the circumstances of your case, not at all,” Jackson told him.

“I take full responsibility for what happened,” he responded. “I’m sorry. It wasn’t supposed to go that way.”
YoungBoy, a 17-year-old father of three children, promised to “do right” going forward and said he’s committed to his family. The judge gave him a stern warning to live up to those words.
“Failure is not an option,” Jackson said.
